About NWA Guitar Lessons

NWA Guitar Lessons is a private studio owned by Alan Redmon. Alan started playing the guitar when he was 5 years old, and it has been his primary passion ever since. Throughout elementary and middle school, he studied classical guitar and flamenco at the Valencia Conservatory of Music, in Valencia, Venezuela. There he had private lessons with Miguel Rodriguez, who was a former student of Andrés Segovia. Being also drawn to the electric guitar, he took lessons from Freddy Almarza, focusing on blues, rock and roll, classic rock, and latin rock.

In high school he studied jazz guitar under Franco Nasi, former student of Scott Henderson, and graduate of the Musician’s Institute in California. There he learned a wide variety of jazz styles, including swing, bebop, Latin / Afro-Cuban jazz, bossa nova, big-band and gypsy jazz. During this time, he also took bass and cuatro (Venezuelan ukulele) lessons from Alejandro Cisneros, focusing mostly on funk and R&B music, as well as salsa, merengue, samba, reggae, and many other Latin and Caribbean styles.
Upon graduating high school, Alan went on to study Music Education at William Carey University, and furthered his classical guitar studies under Carlos Castilla. He also studied Music Recording and Production at Middle Tennessee State University, and then Guitar Performance at the Atlanta Institute of Music. There he took lessons from Carl Culpepper, Bill Hart, and Vitali Tkachenka, covering a wide array of different genres.

After finishing college in 2010, Alan moved to Northwest Arkansas, and was hired to teach full-time at Ben Jacks Music, in Bentonville. When Ben Jacks closed in 2013, he was hired to teach full-time at Arkansas Musicworks. In summer of 2018, he started his own lessons program, out of his own studio, known as NWA Guitar Lessons. Most of his students are long-term students, some who have taken since as far back as 2011. Alan is very passionate about teaching, and finds it incredibly rewarding to witness the joy and excitement that students feel as they make progress. To Alan, it’s so much more than just music lessons - it’s ultimately about building great relationships with his students, and having a positive impact in their lives.

Aside from teaching, Alan enjoys writing and recording his own music, as well as performing occasionally. His music is all instrumental, and a mixture of many different styles. Growing up, his influences ranged from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Pass, George Benson, Stanley Jordan and Pat Metheny to Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, Steve Morse and Steve Vai, among many others.

If you or your child are interested in taking lessons from Alan, or have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out - he’d love to hear from you! You can also check out the Lessons page for more detailed information on lesson plans.
